While we, the 21st century Europeans, tend to be skeptical about the prospect of finding “love” in our private lives, “love talk” is endemic in our public debates.
- What do we mean when we say “love” in everyday life and in the public sphere?
- How do we manage to enlist “love” in support of conflicting moral and political stances?
- How do love, sexuality and religion intertwine in contemporary society?
- Do religious traditions have anything meaningful to tell us about love, in our secular (or post-secular?) age?
These and other issues will be discussed by writers and academics, people of faith and nonbelievers, of varied national backgrounds and generations. Panelists:
- Jim Forest, peace activist and writer.
- Ernst van den Hemel, religious studies and literature scholar, researcher and lecturer at Utrecht University and AUC.
- Marco Derks, theologian and PhD candidate at Utrecht University.
- Rudi te Velde, professor of philosophy at the University of Amsterdam.
